Industrialist and founder of HME Technology Limited, Martyn R. Hale, visits Hayesfield Girls School in Bath, England, to discuss the importance of Design & Technology in the school curriculum with staff members Emma Yates (Head Teacher), Andrew Young (Design Technology teacher) and Nigel Isaac (Head of Art, Design and Technology) and pupils, inviting them to share their views and experiences about the subject.

"Progress 8" is a new secondary school accountability system which is being implemented throughout 2016/17 (and even 2015 for schools that choose to adopt the new measure early), aiming to measure the progress a pupil makes from the end of primary school to the end of secondary school by comparing their achievements to that of other pupils. These measures are designed to "encourage schools to offer a broad and balanced curriculum at KS4" and rewarding schools for the teaching of their pupils measured across 8 qualifications. DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY IS NOT LISTED AS A CORE PROGRESS 8 SUBJECT - something which Martyn (and many others) feels must be changed.
